Dr Matthew Foo started the Bachelor of Dentistry at University of Adelaide in 1987 aged 16 years old and started working as a general dentist in private practice in 1992. After 10 years working in many locations, he pursued an interest in surgery and was accepted as an Oral Maxillofacial Surgical registrar at the Royal Hobart Hospital and Westmead Hospital.
This enabled him to be involved in diverse surgical procedures, such as complex wisdom teeth extractions, head and neck tumor resections, Orthognathic surgery (Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomies) to complex surgical jaw reconstructions. During this period, Dr Foo taught Oral Surgery to University of Sydney dental students at the Westmead Hospital.
After acquiring such extensive general dental and surgical experience, Dr Foo decided to pursue, and was accepted into, the Orthodontic specialty at the University of Sydney. He completed 3 years of full time training and studies in orthodontics at the Sydney Dental Hospital and Westmead Hospital. This enabled him to train in all aspects of orthodontic treatment including conventional braces, Invisalign clear aligners, lingual braces and
removable orthodontic appliances. Dr Foo is a certified user of Incognito, Harmony and eBrace lingual braces. He has also become a Member of Australian Society of Orthodontists, Member of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, Member of World Federation of Orthodontists, Member of American Association of Orthodontists and Committee member of the Australasian society of Lingual Orthodontists.
Dr Foo has lectured at multiple venues to general dentists and fellow orthodontists. He is actively involved in teaching of the Orthodontic postgraduates at University of Sydney. Dr Foo is dedicated to his continuing education to provide the best orthodontic care for his patients.
He regularly attends courses, meetings and conferences every year to keep up to date with the latest innovations in orthodontics and chairs a Dental Education Group in Sydney's upper north shore.
He is a principal at his orthodontic practices in Pymble and in Maitland.
