Originally from New Zealand, Dr Stewart completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the prestigious University of Otago. Throughout his career, he has owned and operated several successful dental practices, including the very first seven-day dental clinic on the Gold Coast—demonstrating his dedication to patient access and convenience. Dr Stewart is passionate about providing personalised, high-quality dental care. He takes the time to understand each patient’s individual needs and is particularly skilled at helping nervous patients overcome dental anxiety. Dr Joshua Lee is a dentist with a compassionate, patient-centred approach. Born in New Zealand, Joshua grew up on the Gold Coast. He studied locally at Griffith University where he completed a Bachelor of Oral Health in Dental Science and a Master of Dentistry. During his studies, he received the “Sir Sammeul Griffith Scholarship” for dentistry. He also graduated with a “head of school commendation for academic excellence”. In addition, Dr Joshua Lee is a member of Griffith Honour College. In the dental practice, Joshua enjoys social interaction with his patients. He emphasizes that every patient is different, and every case brings its own unique challenges. Joshua values the responsibility to improve his patients’ oral health conditions and thereby effectively improve their quality of life.

Dr Craig Waring is a senior dentist at Coastal Dental Care Mermaid Beach with over 35 years’ experience. Craig attended the University of Queensland and completed a Bachelor of Dental Science with First Class Honours. Following this, his passion to start his own private practice grew and he moved to the Gold Coast with his wife Kate to pursue this opportunity. Dr Craig Waring is a senior dentist at Coastal Dental Care Mermaid Beach with over 35 years' experience. In 1986, Dr Craig Waring formed his own practice on the coast which quickly grew and became one of the largest multi-clinics in Queensland. Furthermore, his practice included 9 surgeries and full in-house acrylic and ceramic laboratories. Craig has been instrumental in helping many young graduates find their passion and desire to start their own private practice. He enjoys giving back to dentistry through mentoring and developing their careers. In the practice, Craig has a passion for early orthodontics, crowns, bridges and aesthetic dentistry. Furthermore, he likes to provide his patients with a thorough education about their oral health condition and treatment during their visit. Outside of the clinic, Dr Craig’s interests revolve mostly around outdoor activities. You can find him running, riding or at the beach swimming or surfing. Aside from his outdoor activities, most of his spare time is spent with his family.

Dr Ben Perera’s modus operandi (way of working) is to provide pain-free dentistry for his patients. Dr Ben is a general dentist who brings an extensive skill set and fresh outlook to the Mermaid Beach Coastal Dental Care team. Dr Ben’s approach to patient care goes beyond just providing treatment. He is a warm-hearted dentist with exceptional communication skills, ensuring that his patients are well-informed and comfortable. Under his care, patients never leave confused about their treatment or how to maintain their oral health. Finishing his Bachelor of Dental Science at the University of Queensland, Dr Ben graduated in early 2022 with First Class Honours. He was awarded the J. Owen Pearn Memorial Prize in 2021 for excellence in dental research. Dr Ben takes pride in staying up-to-date and practising the most modern dental techniques. His ongoing study and training allows him to provide the best care for his patients. Some of Dr Ben’s areas of interest include restorative dentistry, endodontics, airways and sleep dentistry, paediatrics, emergency dentistry, diagnosis and rehabilitation. Dr Ben remains a true Gold Coaster, committed to weekend patrols at his local surf lifesaving club. In his spare time, he plays the drums and enjoys the Aussie music scene.

Rachel Barker is a dedicated and compassionate Oral Health Therapist who takes pride in providing gentle, personalised care to patients of all ages. With formal qualifications in both dental hygiene and therapy, she has a special interest in the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease, as well as in children’s dentistry. Her calm and approachable manner helps put patients at ease, making each dental visit a positive experience. Born and raised on the Gold Coast, Rachel’s passion for dentistry was sparked during her own orthodontic journey as a teenager. Experiencing first-hand the transformative power of quality dental care not only improved her smile but also inspired her to pursue a career where she could help others feel confident and empowered about their oral health. Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy and Hygiene) from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga in 2017. During her studies, her dedication and clinical excellence were recognised when she was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Oral Health Therapist Graduate of the Year award. Since completing her degree, Rachel has developed a broad skill set through her work in both regional and rural communities across Queensland, gaining valuable experience in diverse clinical settings. She is passionate about education and prevention and enjoys working closely with patients to tailor treatment plans that suit their unique needs and lifestyles. Whether supporting children through their first dental visits or helping adults manage complex periodontal concerns, Rachel brings warmth, professionalism, and care to every appointment. Outside of her professional life, Rachel Barker enjoys staying active and spending quality time with her young family. She loves being outdoors, exploring the natural beauty of the Gold Coast, and creating special memories with her loved ones.
