I had a few sporting injuries when I was younger, which gave me some exposure to what a physiotherapist does and how much they can make a positive impact on people’s lives. I always wanted to pursue a career in the health care and sport setting so physio seemed like a good pick for me to join both of these passions together. I love treating all ages but have an extra special interest in treating kids! I love getting to make therapy fun and helping them get even more happy and healthy. I also have a special interest in dancing and sport related overuse injuries, getting people out of chronic or long term pain is so rewarding!

I had a lot of injuries playing sports when I was a kid. I was fascinated to see what physios do and the process in how they got me back into playing sports, which was why I wanted to become a physiotherapist. I love treating sporting related injuries as there is nothing more annoying than not being able to play the sport you love. However, I also have an interest in paediatrics and helping individuals with their chronic pain!

I always knew that I wanted to do something in the healthcare industry but wasn’t sure what until I found the diversity within podiatry. Including specialties like sports medicine, minor surgeries, diabetic care, and which I find intriguing. The idea of assisting individuals in regaining their mobility and overall well-being resonates with me. Treating and assisting every type of patient is a gratifying experience, as it allows us to contribute to their goals and well-being, making it a rewarding endeavor. I take pleasure in addressing different foot and ankle conditions, with a particular focus on exploring the biomechanical aspects of these issues. I’m interested in treating conditions like plantar fasciitis, patellofemoral pain, ankle sprains, and arthritis pain.

I became a Remedial Therapist because I spent a significant amount of time as a patient throughout my teenage years after enduring multiple severe injuries to the knee, shoulder, and ankle on separate occasions, and thus had encounters with phenomenal practitioners that inspired me to join the ranks. I enjoy working with post surgical patients as there are always interesting variables to consider and work through.

After high school I studied Sports Development which I thought would lead to PE teaching, but instead, my favourite part of this course was the Sports Massage component. I liked the idea of working with elite athletes and helping them achieve their goals, so I decided to pursue a career in Myotherapy. I enjoy working with patients with lumbo-pelvic pain, particularly with distance runners and cyclists. This is partly because during my triathlon career I constantly had battles with lumbo-pelvic pain myself.

I originally became a Remedial Massage Therapist to help people with their pain and improve their quality of movement. Over the years, I have seen a lot of muscular dysfunctions and pathologies, but I always wanted to learn more to help my patients achieve their best outcomes. Since studying Myotherapy, I have increased my knowledge and tools to be able to help patients more effectively. I enjoy helping people who want to help themselves. I am passionate about educating patients about their injuries and helping them improve their range of movement. I enjoy helping older, active people achieve their fitness goals. Being active at any age is important, but particularly for older people. I especially love meeting people in their 50s and 60s who are training for marathons or have high intensity gym routines. It really shows that age is just a number and fitness can be gained at any age as long as you are committed.

I initially had no idea what I wanted to do after finishing school! It came time to make a decision, and becoming a physiotherapist sounded like a good idea. Luckily for me, I loved studying it at university and have loved being a physio ever since. Now I can’t think of a better job for me! I love helping patients with chronic pain who are motivated to improve their health. This includes those with fibromyalgia and other complex and chronic conditions. It is so rewarding to see patients get little wins, whether it be something as simple as being able to walk up and down stairs again, or being able to travel and go on hikes overseas.
