Glenn Vessey

Glenn was born and raised in Melbourne and graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry Degree from the University Melbourne in 1989. He then went onto a Masters Degree in Optometry- researching the cause of Myopia. Whilst doing this he commenced part time work at Eyecare Plus Mulgrave. At that stage the practice was owned by Paul McCann. Glenn remembers the first day he went to the practice for a job interview. He saw the professional medical setting of the practice and thought “Yes! This is the sort of Optometry that I want to be involved in!” After 2 years Glenn completed his Masters Degree and commenced full time work at the practice. Three years later he purchased the practice under his name and in 2007 moved the practice next door to its current location at 431 Police Road. In addition to running the Mulgrave practice over the years Glenn has also done part time lecturing and clinical teaching of final year Optometry students at the University of Melbourne. He sees this as putting back into the future of Optometry. After 27 years Glenn still loves working as an Optometrist in Mulgrave. He enjoys feeling a part of the community. “I value the relationships I have developed with patients over the years and I get a real thrill out of seeing patients that I have seen as a child coming to see me with their own children! My passion is providing our local community with the highest level of eyecare that will maximise their vision now and ensure it is optimal into the future.” Glenn also enjoys the advances in technology and knowledge that have taken place over this period of time. “We now have the ability to do things we could only ever previously dream about. I get very excited when I think about what the future developments are ahead of us. The work I do now is very different to the one I did 27 years ago. The information we can obtain from the equipment available is much greater making diagnoses more accurate and treatment outcomes much improved.” Outside of work Glenn is married to Anisha. They have 3 wonderful children- Kieran 14, Nakisha 12 and Tahlia 10. He loves spending time with his family and being involved in his children’s many sporting activities. Glenn is an avid swimmer and often enjoys an early morning swim to start the day. When time allows, Glenn and his family love going down to Phillip Island. They enjoy surfing, swimming and just having fun, relaxing at the beach.
