Robin is trained in the following therapies: Psychodynamic psychotherapy Dialectical Behaviour therapy (DBT) Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Imago Couples Therapy EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation & Reprocessing) Therapy Robin was trained in South Africa in the psychodynamic tradition and so brings deep understanding to his clients. He also employs other modern therapeutic techniques. Along with private practice, Robin has worked in acute care psychiatric hospitals, supporting people with chronic mental health challenges and has served on the Board of Directors for a substance abuse recovery program. He has a great deal of interest and experience in the field of addictions and addiction recovery. Robin is passionate about Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based method drawing on Mindfulness traditions. He uses DBT with impulsive behaviours (e.g., aggression, substance abuse, self-harm, suicidal urges) to help clients regulate fluctuations in their emotions and perceptions. Robins knows that much of our joy, and hurt, in life comes from how connected or disconnected we feel in relationships. Knowing this, he has trained in Imago Couples Therapy. Imago Couples Therapy focuses on collaboratively healing childhood wounds that couples share. Robin creates a safe space for couples so their communication can occur not just at an intellectual level, but at the heart level. He believes this is how and where long-term behaviour change occurs. Robin also works with trauma. He knows that “trauma is what happens inside of you as a result of traumatic events. It is a loss of connection to oneself and the present moment” (Dr Gabor Maté). Recently Robin has completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitisation & Reprocessing). EMDR is one of the only treatments approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for survivors of trauma. If you have been through trauma and you struggle with the aftermath (such as detachment, distressing thoughts, flashbacks or nightmares), Robin can assist you. Throughout the entire therapy process, Robin is always open to feedback on your progress and actively invites you to share your needs and experiences. His aim is to work with you in order to make your therapy journey both helpful and meaningful.
