Amy is a warm and dedicated therapist, who is passionate about supporting her clients through all stages of life. Amy has been working with children and their parents (6 months and onward), adolescents, adults and families with various mental health presentations such as anxiety, depression and mood disorders.
Before commencing her own private practice in (2017 to present), Amy worked as an ABA therapist (2009 - Present) assisting families, children and teachers to improve behaviour and learning.
She continues to volunteer and provide her weekends assisting children, adults and adolescents with a developmental and learning disability and financially disadvantaged families with a focus on improving their day to day functioning and mental well being. She has extensive experience in the management of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and works with NDIS self-managed funded clients to reach their goals.
Amy worked in the Disability Services of Australia (DSA - 2009) which focused on providing positive behaviour support to schools, homes and community settings. She has experience working alongside infants, primary and high school teachers and has ongoing work with Support Classes in the mainstream school setting as well as ASPECTS and autism classes.
She provides ongoing learning adjustments and recommendations to teachers to assist her clients to achieve and reach their full potential. Besides her dedication to supporting clients affected by a disability, she also completed her placement and volunteered at the Burwood Community Welfare Centre (2009), organising DV forum, assisting with food vouchers and bills and counselling those in desperate need of accommodation and shelter.
In 2013, Amy joined BHC Medical Centre (2013 to Present), and provided counselling to Chronic Pain clients whom had been affected by medical conditions and illnesses. She has experience working alongside General Practitioners, Physiotherapist, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Exercise Physiologist, dietitian/nutritionist and Psychiatrist and mental Health nurses to co-ordinate care for clients affected by medical conditions such as chronic back pain, arthritis, PTSD and her clientele are usually referred by specialists such as pediatricians, medical doctors, Lawyers and solicitors, DV case worker/social workers, Family support workers and compensation organisations.
She has experience with assisting clients affected by Third Party Car Accidents (CTP) and provides assessment and treatment and reporting to private organisations. She has experience working with public liability cases, family custody adjustments, separation/ divorce, drug, alcohol and gambling court orders and Immigration/ visa application reports treatment and assessment.
Amy believes very much in providing quality and accessible mental health treatment to everyone with particular passion in breaking down barriers for families that are disadvantage including clients with a Non-English speaking background (Fluent with English, Cantonese and Mandarin), those affected by housing issues, Domestic Violence and financial disadvantage AND is a sponsor for the Work and Development Order ( WDO) with RTA to assist clients with managing their state debts.
Amy believes that therapy is an opportunity to gain a better understanding of ones self in a professionally supportive environment. Her goal is to empower her clients to believe and better handle life stressors through utilising their own strengths. Amy sees life stressors as a way to help us build resilience and as a journey to better oneself. She assists her clients through providing unconditional positive regard and believes that her clients will improve through personal growth and self-compassion.
In her therapeutic work, Amy likes to draw on eclectic therapy models such as Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (Inner Child Work), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness CBT, Interpersonal Effectiveness Therapy (IPT) and Positive Behavioural Interventions tailored to each clients needs and preferences.
Amy speaks multiple languages, Cantonese and Mandarin and is culturally sensitive and trained to assist immigrants and Non-english Speaking client's. She also provides intervention/ support to children to help them build self confidence and tackle anxiety in this day and age as well as provide tools for parent's to assist their child in overcoming those problems such as ADHD, learning difficulty, social anxiety, exam stress and parenting concerns.
