Dr Hamish Hardy is an experienced General Practitioner and Skin Cancer Doctor with more than 20 years of clinical experience across general practice, skin cancer medicine and surgery, rural medicine, anaesthesia, emergency medicine and procedural care.
A Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP), Dr Hardy has developed a particular clinical focus in the early detection, diagnosis, treatment and surgical management of skin cancer. His extensive medical and procedural background allows him to provide patients with comprehensive care, from their initial skin assessment and diagnosis through to biopsy, surgical treatment and ongoing surveillance.
Dr Hardy is highly experienced in dermoscopic skin assessment, an important diagnostic technique used to closely examine suspicious skin lesions and identify changes that may require further investigation. He performs a broad range of skin cancer procedures, including biopsies and the surgical excision of both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.
His experience extends well beyond skin cancer medicine. Dr Hardy has worked extensively in rural and regional medicine, emergency departments, anaesthesia and interventional radiology. This broad procedural background has given him considerable experience in assessing complex medical presentations, performing procedures and managing patients safely throughout their treatment and recovery.
Dr Hardy completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Sydney in 2004 and subsequently undertook hospital training at Royal North Shore Hospital and Gosford Hospital, including experience in anaesthetics and intensive care. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2012 and is also a JCCA-accredited Rural Anaesthetist.
He has cared for patients across metropolitan, regional and rural communities throughout New South Wales and has significant experience caring for older Australians and Department of Veterans’ Affairs patients, including the ongoing management and surveillance of their skin cancer and dermatological needs.
Dr Hardy believes that high-quality skin cancer care is about more than identifying a suspicious spot. It involves taking the time to thoroughly assess the skin, explain findings clearly, discuss appropriate treatment options and ensure patients understand what happens next.
At Skin Cancer Canberra Clinic, Dr Hardy provides comprehensive skin cancer assessment and management, including:
Comprehensive full skin examinations
Assessment of individual or concerning skin lesions
Dermoscopic examination and early skin cancer detection
Skin biopsies
Diagnosis and treatment planning
Surgical excision of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers
Wound management and post-procedure care
Ongoing skin cancer monitoring and surveillance
With his combination of general practice expertise, extensive procedural experience and a strong focus on skin cancer diagnosis and surgery, Dr Hardy offers patients considered, thorough and continuity-focused care. Patients can feel confident knowing that should something suspicious be identified during their examination, Dr Hardy has the experience to guide them through the next steps — from investigation and diagnosis to appropriate treatment and ongoing follow-up.
