Dr Rushmia Karim is a skilled surgeon, performing cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange. She has a special interest in neuro-ophthalmology and performs complex cataract surgery, squint surgery and lid procedures (blepharoplasty). Dr Karim has a particular interest in providing bespoke eye surgery for her patients, tailored to their visual needs. Understanding each individual’s current and future visual demands is important to her. She is particularly focused on being patient-centred throughout the consultation and communicating the current evidence regarding each individual treatment option to her patients. ‘I have always wanted patients to understand their eye condition and be at the centre of their care,’ Dr Karim says. ‘Understanding the patient as an individual and providing them with the latest evidence-based medicine is what I strive to achieve at every consultation.’ Dr Karim trained in the highly regarded London ophthalmology vocational program, including the world-famous Moorfields Eye Hospital, in cataract surgery and ophthalmology.

Tim Roberts is Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney and Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He is a highly experienced cataract and glaucoma surgeon. A/Prof Roberts has been honoured with Global Achievement Awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology and other international societies for his contributions to scientific and educational programs and to the field of ophthalmology. His clinical and research interests are numerous and include the development and utilisation of new and innovative technologies and therapies in ophthalmology, medical ethics and education. A/Prof Roberts has published over 60 research articles, book chapters and editorials and given over 200 presentations at scientific meetings around the world. He has also served on the editorial board of a number of journals and the American Academy of Ophthalmology Cataract textbook and sits on various government, industry, university and professional advisory boards.

Despite having gained a wide breadth of clinical expertise in neurosurgery and plastic surgery, Dr David Ng eventually chose to specialise in ophthalmology and completed his training at the renowned Sydney Eye Hospital. As a general ophthalmologist, Dr Ng treats patients with a broad range of eye conditions. He has considerable experience in performing laser cataract surgery and regularly lectures on this area to optometrists and other doctors. Dr Ng also has a particular interest in glaucoma and medical diseases of the retina, such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vessel disease. Some other conditions Dr Ng regularly manages and treats include eyelid lesions and pterygium (Surfer’s Eye). For pterygium surgery, Dr Ng uses tissue glue to reduce the need for sutures.1,2 Dr Ng is a designated aviation ophthalmologist (DAO) and is able to provide medical and eye examination services for pilots and individuals applying for aviation licences.
