David Shanahan has been practising Optometry in Australia for over two decades. He qualified with a Fellowship in Optometry in Dublin in 1987. In 2011 David attained a Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from the University of New South Wales.
David is qualified to prescribe and treat eye conditions. In 2012 he attained credentialed status with CASA as an Ophthalmic Examiner for pilots. David’s special area of interest is in solving unusual vision problems. This may involve people whose daily tasks include varying demanding visual requirements e.g. Using twin or multiple computer screens. Playing musical instruments with score sheets at various angles or hobbies such as shooting.
David runs a myopia control clinic at his practice and fits the specialised OrthoK contact lenses. He is also highly skilled in treating dry eye and utilises this by using “TearLab” testing, tear videography, BlephEx testing and an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatment device.
David’s hobbies include spending time with his family, windsurfing, cycling and running.
