Darren joined our team at Alphington Sports Medicine in 2013. Prior to being a Physiotherapist Darren completed a Degree in Exercise & Sport Science and worked as a Strength & Conditioning Coach. He then completed his Degree in Physiotherapy with Honours, and is currently completing his Master's of Sports Physiotherapy. His Honours research examined patients following ACL reconstruction giving him expertise in the rehabilitation of this injury. Prior to working here at Alphington Darren worked as a Physiotherapist at Epworth Rehabilitation giving him extensive experience in the rehabilitation of acute post-surgical joint replacements, spinal surgery and motor vehicle accidents. He has also worked as a Physiotherapist in London.
Darren is currently working as the Head Physiotherapist for the Volleyroos, the men's national volleyball team. His previous sports teams include the Coburg Tigers VFL team, Victorian Fury Netball Team and the Victoria Bushranger's Cricket team. Darren will be heading to the Gold Coast in 2018 working as a Physiotherapist at the Commonwealth Games.
As a physiotherapist Darren's areas of interest are the management of back pain, muscle injuries/tears, ACL rehabilitation, and tendon injuries as well as management to return to high level sport. Given his background Darren is a big believer in the importance of strength for the rehabilitation of injuries and therefore runs many of our Group Exercise Classes at the Exercise + Rehabilitation Centre.
