Sam graduated from the University of South Australia in 2001 and is an APA titled Sport and Exercise Physiotherapist having completed his Masters of Sports Physiotherapy at Latrobe University in 2014.
Sam joined the team at Alphington Sports Medicine in 2019 with extensive sports physiotherapy experience having previously worked for 12 years as Head Physiotherapist at the Melbourne Football Club. During this time he was also selected as Australian Team Physiotherapist for the AFL International Rules Series in 2013 and 2014. He is currently working part-time for Melbourne City FC in the A-league and was Team Physiotherapist for the club's 2021-22 Premiership winning season.
Further to his work in elite sport, Sam has also worked in orthopaedic and trauma rehabilitation, hand therapy and private practice. Given his elite sports experience, Sam enjoys managing soft tissue injuries (hamstring, quadriceps, calf) and athletic groin pain, as well as developing targeted exercise rehabilitation programs for spinal, shoulder, hip, knee (including ACL) and ankle joint injuries. He also has broad experience developing post-surgical rehabilitation programs for upper and lower limb conditions. Sam is focused on providing elite personalised injury treatment and rehabilitation programs for every patient, which are tailored to each person’s individual goals and level of activity.
Alongside his clinical work, Sam is also currently undertaking his PhD at Latrobe University investigating quadriceps muscle strain injuries in sport
