Ernie is a registered psychologist who brings a truly unique and grounded perspective to mental health, rooted in years of experience as a Registered Nurse in frontline healthcare. This dual background provides him with a deep, practical understanding of stress, crisis, and resilience, especially in high-pressure environments like Emergency Departments and during his humanitarian work as a medic in Nepal and Southeast Asia.
Clinically, Ernie believes that therapy is a collaborative experience. He approaches every session with warmth and positive regard, focusing on creating an empathetic and safe space where clients feel truly heard. His core work centres on helping clients clarify their personal values and align their actions with those values to build a meaningful life. Ernie specialises in working with individuals experiencing Trauma, Anxiety, and Phobias (including social anxiety and panic). Drawing directly on his medical background, he is also particularly passionate about enhancing the wellbeing of frontline service workers and preventing burnout, supporting his peers with actionable strategies.
To achieve positive, lasting change, Ernie utilises an integrated, evidence-based approach, flexibly drawing on modalities best suited to the client’s unique needs. These may include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).
Furthermore, having grown up between Taiwan and Australia, Ernie speaks fluent Mandarin. This background allows him to integrate a strong understanding of how diverse cultural, familial, and social structures profoundly impact mental health and well-being. He also incorporates practical mindfulness techniques into his sessions to help clients ground themselves.
